The event is expected to see the performance of selected 17 folk songs, including 9 songs from Binh Dinh’s candidates, 1 from Khanh Hoa province, and 7 from Phu Yen province.

Among 17 candidates, the youngest participant who comes from Binh Dinh is 12 and the oldest one coming from Phu Yen is 79.

About 30 local artists will also perform at the beginning of the final round.

The representatives of the UNESCO in Vietnam, and Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Touris will attend the event and hand over the decision recognizing Bai choi singing as a national intangible cultural herigate.

The festival, which is an annual event held by VTV Phu Yen, has a wider significance as all relevant bodies are completing the proposal for recognizing Bai choi as the intangible cultural heritage of mankind by 2015, according to Deputy director of VTV Phu Yen Tran Thanh Hung.

The final night taking place at 8 pm on Thursday will be broadcast live by Binh Dinh Broadcasting Station (BTV) and VTV Phu Yen.

It will also be replayed on VTV 4, a VTV’s international channel for Vietnamese worldwide.
