Vietnamese photographer An Le won first prize for his set of photos entitled ‘The Sea’ at the New Exposure Fashion Photography Contest in New York City, held jointly by Vogue magazine, RED Digital Cinema and Bottega Veneta
The contest, which received 500 entries from around the world, aimed to discover key emerging talents in fashion photography and help advance their careers.
The 22 year-old photographer, who recently graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in the US, received high praise from the judging panel for his collection ‘The Sea’.
The series of photos features the story of an old fisherman who finds a huge egg lying by the sea, out of which hatches a beautiful girl. However, the girl’s appearance brings chaos to the man’s family when his wife becomes sad, jealous and older so the fisherman finally takes the girl back to the sea.
An Le used contrasting techniques to arouse strong emotions in the viewer.
An Le will receive a prize worth US$50,000 that includes a RED Epic-X camera, a one-year mentorship with the photography agency Management Artists, and the opportunity to shoot a project for the Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta.
